ROSEMARY'S
In a city like New York, where encounters are frequent, but connections are precious, it’s hard to imagine a space where these gems can be excavated. Rosemary’s is one of those treasure troves. Located at 18 Greenwich Ave, this Italian restaurant feels more like my mother’s dining room on Thanksgiving than a quintessential fine dining experience.
Fairy lights adorn the seating area and candles line the tables, illuminating the Italian countryside decor. Music pulsates in the background, transitioning from Italian mambo to classical jazz. The aesthetic and incredible food culminate in a dining experience in which amazing conversation is guaranteed.
This was the setting for the October installment of our Sunday Supper series. Our prix-fixe menu started with a shared platter of salumi, verdure, and focaccia. Rosemary’s boasts a rooftop garden-to-table style and the freshness of that house-grown produce was definitely the highlight. Members enjoyed the aperitivi so much that we had to see the rooftop garden after our meal.
Following the delicious assortment of appetizers, two large bowls of pasta were brought to the table. Over the music, conversation flowed. No topic was left behind; we covered everything, from basic introductions to our weirdest adventures in the city. All the while, notes of lemon, red pepper, and parmesan waltzed on our palettes from the linguini, contrasting the fusilli delicately dressed in pesto fused with tomato sauce and dollops of ricotta.
The finale of the night was a tour of the rooftop. Overlooking bustling city life and endless lights, the magic of the garden transported us to the Tuscan countryside. Perhaps it was the enchanting backdrop or the meal sharing; but somehow, relative strangers seemed like longtime friends. I truly haven’t laughed and eaten as well as I did at Rosemary’s in a long time, what an amazing kick-off to our restaurant emprise.
